personal trainer for men over 40
PERSONAL TRAINING FOR MEN OVER 40, 50 & 60 IN LONDON, BUILT AROUND YOU AND WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE.
Getting older doesn't mean giving up on being strong, fit or in great shape. You can still build muscle, lose body fat, get stronger and make a significant difference to how you look and feel.
Maybe you haven't trained for years and want to get back into it. Perhaps you've gradually put on some weight, lost some strength or simply don't feel as fit as you'd like. Or you may already train regularly and want better results from the time you're putting into the gym. Whatever your starting point, we'll look at where you are now, what you'd like to improve and build your training around you.
STARTING FROM WHERE YOU ARE
After more than 15 years as a personal trainer, I've worked with people of all ages and levels of experience. Some hadn't exercised properly for years when we started. Others were already strong and experienced but wanted to take their training further.
There's no level of fitness you need to reach before starting personal training. If you're new to the gym, I'll show you what to do, help you with your technique and build things up gradually. If you already train, we'll look at what's working, what's not and where we can make improvements. We start with you.
TRAINING WITH A PURPOSE
You don't need a special workout simply because you're over 40, 50 or 60. You need training that's appropriate for your body, experience and goals.
Strength and resistance training will usually form the foundation of what we do. We'll use free weights, machines, cables and other exercises where appropriate to help you build muscle, improve strength and become fitter. I'll pay close attention to your technique and how your body responds to different exercises. If something doesn't suit you, we'll find another way to train it. As you get stronger, we'll gradually progress what you're doing.
You'll work hard, but I'm not interested in exhausting you simply for the sake of it. Every session should have a purpose.
BUILD MUSCLE, REDUCE BODY FAT & GET STRONGER
For many men, the goal is fairly simple: more muscle, less body fat, better strength and a body they feel good about.
You might want to reduce your waist, build more muscle through your chest, shoulders, back, arms or legs, or simply look fitter and stronger overall. We'll use resistance training to build and maintain muscle, while nutrition and daily activity can help reduce body fat. Depending on your starting point, we may be able to improve both at the same time.
We won't judge everything by the scales either. Your strength, measurements, how your clothes fit and how your physique changes are all useful ways of seeing progress.
TRAIN HARD WITHOUT IGNORING YOUR BODY
Being over 40, 50 or 60 doesn't mean training has to become easy. You can still challenge yourself and make excellent progress, but there's also no benefit in ignoring what your body is telling you.
We'll consider your training history, mobility, recovery and any movements that don't work particularly well for you. If something doesn't suit you, we'll find a better option. If you're struggling to recover, we'll look at why rather than simply pushing harder.
The aim is to train consistently, get stronger and feel physically better, not spend the days between sessions recovering from the last one. As your fitness improves, I also want you to feel the difference outside the gym, with better movement, more energy and feeling more physically capable in everyday life.
NUTRITION THAT WORKS IN NORMAL LIFE
You don't need to live on a strict diet or organise your entire day around food to improve your physique. We'll focus on the things that matter: protein, overall calorie intake, portion sizes and better everyday food choices, depending on whether your priority is losing body fat, building muscle or both.
Restaurants, holidays, weekends away and busy periods at work are part of life. We'll find an approach that allows for them rather than expecting you to be perfect all the time. The same applies to training. Some weeks you'll have more time than others. What matters is having enough structure to keep moving forward.
